My First Korean Baseball Game

As the glaring sunlight illuminated the perfectly manicured field at Jamsil Baseball Stadium, the roar of the crowd erupted, sending a wave of energy through me. This was my first Korean baseball game, and the electric atmosphere was unlike anything I'd ever experienced.

Exiting Sports Complex subway station, I was immediately immersed in the passionate world of Korean baseball fans. Waves of supporters clad in colorful jerseys filled the streets, eagerly queuing for "chi-mek" (chicken and beer) to fuel their game-day excitement.

Entering the stadium to witness the clash between the home team Doosan Bears and the visiting SSG Landers, I was met with a sight to behold. The stands were overflowing with fervent fans, their cheers and chants creating an auditory spectacle that reverberated through the arena. The pulsating beat of drums and blaring horns intensified the electrifying ambiance.

Chanting "sam-jin" (strikeout) and "ttwieo" (run) as loud as we can to support our team.

As a foreigner and not a die-hard sports enthusiast, I initially felt a bit out of place. However, the warmth and camaraderie of the surrounding fans quickly put me at ease. Before long, I found myself swept up in the fervor, clapping and chanting along with the rest of the crowd. A quick tip for fellow first-timers: bring an umbrella or snag a team jersey (like I did!) to shield yourself from the intense Korean sun.

Getting a ticket proved to be a challenge as I lacked a Korean national ID card. Thankfully, Wonderful, a bilingual virtual assistant service, came to my rescue. I entrusted them with securing my seat, and they didn't disappoint – landing me in the spirited cheering section of the SSG Landers! Within 30 minutes, I received detailed instructions on how to collect my ticket. To top it off, the Landers emerged victorious, making the experience even more memorable.

Hey there! I'm Nicole, a Singaporean student studying strategic corporate communications at Chapman University in California, and I am spending my summer as a marketing intern at Wonderful in Seoul. I love exploring, but let me tell you, the Korean sunshine is a whole new level compared to back home! "Hanguk Saram Anieyo" is definitely my go-to phrase these days – people always seem surprised to hear I'm not Korean. As I navigate through the 8 weeks in Seoul, I hope to share my experiences and insights with you all!
